In its second Ohio expansion, Lumos will build over 1,400 miles of fiber across 15 communities in the Greater Akron area.
High Point, N.C. (October 23, 2024) – Lumos, a leading 100% Fiber-Optic Internet and Total Home Wi-Fi service provider, today announced expansion into Summit County, Ohio, with a nearly $110 million investment to build over 1,400 miles of its 100% Fiber Optic network. With its arrival into Summit County, Lumos will provide homes and small businesses with access to the best technology for remote work, telemedicine, entertainment and all of life’s digital needs.
This expansion marks Lumos’ second significant investment in Ohio. In July 2024, Lumos announced its inaugural expansion into the state with a $230 million investment in the Mahoning Valley. Fiber internet access will benefit Summit County residents through symmetrical upload and download speeds, improving reliability and the online experience.
“As we reach new communities in Summit County, Lumos’ mission remains: to empower people with the speed, reliability, and innovation that only fiber-optic technology can provide,” said Lumos CEO Brian Stading. “We believe that high-speed internet is the foundation of a digital society and has the power to improve the quality of life for its users. We are excited to help shape Ohio’s future by building an internet ready to support its growth, learning, and connection for those in Summit County.”
Lumos understands fast and reliable internet is essential for modern learning, working, and connecting and is working to help bridge the digital divide. With unlimited bandwidth and data capacity, fiber internet provides all communities access to the same digital tools and services as urban areas, bridging the gap between education, job opportunities and government services and boosting economic growth.
“Lumos is bringing advanced fiber technology to Northeast Ohio and that means more choice, and competition to residents who have felt left behind for years,” said Senator Vernon Sykes of Ohio’s 28th Senate District. “I’m pleased to see more private sector-funded infrastructure coming to my district and look forward to the major impact this investment will have on our communities.”
“The Greater Akron Chamber is working hard to ensure the growth and success of our business community, their employees and our region,” said Steve Millard, President & CEO of the Greater Akron Chamber. “We are grateful for the additional private investment that Lumos is making to bring residential fiber service to the under and unserved homes and small businesses in Summit County. Having new infrastructure in our community will make us stronger and more successful”.
By bringing choice to areas that lack a fiber provider, Lumos is establishing communities across the Buckeye State for future economic development. Lumos’ announcement has been met with widespread support from local leaders who are excited to bring fiber competition to Summit County.
“Bringing fiber internet to our community as another choice for high-speed internet is essential to building a community where everyone can succeed,” said the Mayor of Clinton, Bud McDaniel. “We welcome and appreciate Lumos’ important investment into our small community and look forward to working with them as they create a more connected Clinton.”
“In Cuyahoga Falls, we are always in favor of our residents having more options when it comes to internet providers,” said Cuyahoga Falls Mayor, Don Walters.
Engineering work for this new investment is underway and construction will begin shortly. Residents will receive construction updates by mail.
