While we can’t predict everything the future holds, we can tell you what to expect when it comes to Lumos 100% Fiber Optic Internet.
As we expand our fiber network, we are committed to keeping you informed during our construction process. We’ll let you know who those people are in your yard, what those flags mean, when we’re going to start restoration, and, most importantly, when you can schedule installation of Lumos 100% Fiber Internet in your home.

Step 1: Evaluating your area
Step 2: Designing the fiber line route
Our team locates the necessary utility poles, identifies easement locations and requests permission to access each area.
Step 3: Preparing for construction
Once we’ve acquired permits, we’ll add your neighborhood to our construction schedule and let you know we’re coming. You may receive a letter in the mail, a door hanger, a yard sign or an email with these details.
Step 4: Building your network
This is when construction begins. You’ll see our contractors in your neighborhood building your new fiber network. This can be a multi-phase process, so you may see one crew tasked with burying conduit while another installs fiber optic cabling. To prevent damage, we’ll ensure utility lines are marked. We will work in easements and may have to dig trenches, construct attachments on utility poles and install enclosures on sidewalks. When we complete our work depends on the size of your neighborhood and the weather.
Step 5: Hooking you up
After construction is complete, we’ll let you know when your address is eligible for service. Once you sign up, we’ll provide you with details of your installation via email.

To protect against damage during our construction process, utility companies will come by and mark where any public utility lines currently exist in the right-of-way through your yard. Rest assured, our construction crews will remove the flags once the network is complete.

Lumos is permitted to access designated utility easements or the right-of-way (ROW). The ROW is usually a strip of land running along the street, sidewalk, a rear lot line, or between two lots. While most homeowners maintain these ROW areas themselves, the City or Department of Transportation has access to a portion of your property and can grant Lumos access to it as well.
Of course! Please have no worries there. Once our construction team has completed the work, we will restore your lawn as quickly as weather permits.

We always assume that there may be private utilities located underground and take precautionary steps.
To avoid other utilities, the Lumos team drills approximately 36 inches below the surface using a surface-launched drilling rig. This method is trenchless and has minimal impact.
The Lumos team selects the least intrusive intersecting point for pedestal locations.
The short answer is that your area doesn’t currently have the infrastructure available. Luckily, fiber internet networks are growing, and you may have access soon.
